Shading

Solar energy can be generated most efficiently when there is no shading. This can be caused by trees, adjacent buildings, power lines or other modules (self-shading). This is referred to as fixed shading. At the same time, there is also the possibility of temporary shading, for example due to weather influences (clouds, snow) or soiling of the solar module.

When planning a photovoltaic system, a shading analysis must therefore also be carried out. To do this, analyse shadows at any time of day or year that can influence the performance of a system. You can find out what role shading can play in the series connection of PV modules under the term garden hose effect.
