European electricity grid

The electricity grid in continental Europe is connected across national borders. This is why it is also referred to as an interconnected grid. Bottlenecks, e.g. due to power plant failures, can thus be compensated more easily and a more reliable power supply can be ensured overall. At the same time, the coordination and regulation effort increases the larger the grid becomes.
