Surge protection devices
Surges, caused by lightning strikes or switching actions, are frequently the cause of damages and failures in electrical equipment. Inverter failures mean cost-intensive equipment damages. Yield losses and repair costs are consequences, which can be prevented by surge protection devices.
Protection circuit devices
Surge protection devices must be considered for all circuits: On the DC side between L+, L- and the earth potential, and on the AC side between the phases L1, L2, L3, the neutral wire and the earth potential. In addition, all other circuits (e.g. data and measuring technology circuits), which are connected to the inverter, must be protected with suitable products.
Direct and indirect lightning protection
Direct (exterior) lightning protection must be implemented by observing the protection zones and galvanic separations by means of lightning rods for the PV generator. For indirect (interior) lightning protection, several Phoenix Contact products are available, which should be installed directly before the devices to be protected (or at the lightning protection zone transitions).
